Sharon is the Director of Specialist Support Service, and has been with Perthyn since January 2000. She has worked with people with a learning disability for the last 30 years in a wide range of settings including the health, voluntary, independent and statutory sector.
Prior to working for Perthyn Sharon worked as a Behavioural Specialist for the Intensive Support Service (ISS); Cardiff Community Healthcare NHS Trust. The ISS were a specialist service that provided additional behavioural advice, support and training to staff and carers who were supporting individuals with challenging behaviour and additional complex needs, including individuals with autism and mental health needs.
During that time she also contributed to the development of a training manual, Positive Behaviour Management, and acted as a Principal Trainer in its delivery. Positive Behaviour Management is a nationally recognised training programme, accredited by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities. Sharon remains an accredited trainer for Positive Behaviour Management and coordinates its delivery for Perthyn. Additionally, she acts as an external assessor for the re-accreditation of health trainers for the Directorate of Learning Disability Services, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust.
Consequently her work experience has primarily been in settings for individuals with challenging behaviour and has included the provision of direct support, management, training and consultancy. Professional qualifications RNLD, NNEB and MSc Positive Approaches to Challenging Behaviour.
